A man holds a drink and talks at a home gathering in the 1950s, mid-sentence, apparently under the impression that what he is saying is going quite well. The woman beside him has crossed her arms, which in any decade carries a distinct editorial opinion. Behind them an open cabinet holds the bottles that made this kind of evening possible — the home bar being the decade's indoor monument to casual entertaining, the assumption being that a well-stocked shelf in the rec room was the mark of a competent host and a modern household. He is still talking. She has decided to wait.
