建設作業員たちは、この山道が自然を通る効率的な通路を提供するよう、かなりの時間と資源を費やした。彼らはアスファルトと土木工学が永久的な施設であり、地形の地質学的気まぐれに対して不浸透性だと想定していた。

ところが、道路のかなりの区間がただ撤退し、むしろ直線的に下へ向かった。その旧道は、元の設計図にはなかった深い新しい裂け目で示されている。

The historian's note

この画像は、1970年代の山道における重大な道路破損、おそらく地滑りまたは土砂崩れの後の状態を記録している。そのような事象は急勾配で地質学的に活動的な地域では珍しくなく、特に大量降水や地震活動の後には顕著であった。

この時期の山道建設は、不安定な地形と厳しい気象循環による本質的な課題に直面することが多かった。保守作業員は頻繁に浸食、落石、または集団流動現象による被害を受けた道路区間に対処する必要があった。

オレンジと白の柵は、破損した道路区間を閉鎖するために使用される典型的な一時的交通管制装置である。この光景は、自然環境におけるインフラを維持するために必要な継続的な努力を強調し、人間工学と自然力の継続的な相互作用を反映している。
