Off by default. Turning it on lets the image respond to your cursor with a shallow sense of depth, rebuilt from a depth map computed when the image was catalogued. It is an interpretation for looking, not a measured 3D model — and it falls back to the flat image where the browser can't render it.

On the image

Somewhere in postwar America, a group has pushed two tables together and declared the evening a success. The woman at the center — navy satin, clip earrings, the kind of set-and-curled hair that took Saturday afternoon to achieve — is the fixed point everyone else orbits, which she clearly understands. The man behind her in the loosened tie has the look of someone who drove forty minutes to be here and intends to be photographed proving it.

The decade believed that a night out required a jacket on the man and good jewelry on the woman, and that a Texas Ruby Red grapefruit soda on the table constituted adequate mixing options. The man to the right in the open collar sits at a slight remove — no jacket, no tie, working a different strategy entirely — and appears to be succeeding.

What the camera caught, without anyone planning it, is the exact social geometry of a 1950s after-dark gathering: one woman composing herself for the lens while every man at the table arranges himself in relation to her. The person with their back to us is the only one who understood that the real action was at the table, not the camera.
