Someone knelt down here with a hand lens and a notebook, in the era when a geologist's field kit was a rock hammer, a compass-clinometer, and total confidence that the eye alone could sort one epoch from another. What the camera caught is a slab of limestone laid down in patient horizontal beats, each layer a separate afternoon of some ancient seafloor, and scattered through it the pale rounded shapes of fossil coral colonies that once filtered plankton from a warm shallow sea long before anyone thought to name a decade.
In the 1960s this kind of outcrop got photographed for exactly one reason: to prove a claim about age, or oil, or academic priority, usually all three tangled together. The fieldworker assumed the rock would hold still and the classification would hold up, on the theory that a fossil correctly identified once stayed correctly identified forever, a confidence later revisions were happy to correct.
No scale bar, no locality tag, just rock doing what rock does when it has three hundred million years to spare and nobody rushing it. The coral does not know it is famous now for outlasting the survey team that found it.
The historian's note

The specific coral genera and the precise formation cannot be determined from the image alone, but the layered bedding and coral morphology are consistent with a Paleozoic or Mesozoic reef-associated limestone, a formation type found in many sedimentary basins worldwide.
Such images were commonly produced for university geology departments, government survey agencies, or oil exploration companies active in mapping sedimentary basins during this period, reflecting the expanded postwar investment in earth-science fieldwork.
