Someone stopped the car, climbed the scrub-covered slope, and took the obligatory tourist photograph of a fortress that had clearly stopped being defended sometime around the fall of whatever dynasty built it. The crenellated wall still runs the ridge with the stubbornness of masonry that has outlived its purpose, and the slim minaret still points at the sky as though someone might show up for prayers.
In the 1960s this was the kind of stop package tours loved: a genuine ruin, no admission booth, no guardrail, just a hillside of loose stone and thistle you were free to scramble up in your travel clothes. Nobody in the frame worried about erosion control or structural surveys, because in that decade a crumbling wall was simply scenery, not a liability.
The building did the one thing old fortifications reliably do, which is decay picturesquely enough that people keep photographing the process instead of stopping it.
