Someone built a very linear house directly onto a pile of what appears to be ancient lava, creating the kind of architectural statement that probably made sense in the planning meeting. The idea was to integrate nature and design, which in practice meant imposing a clean white box on a craggy black landscape and then hoping nobody noticed the contrast. This was the 1970s, and confidence was high.
Below, the gardens are equally ambitious, with meticulously terraced plantings and a glass conservatory tucked into the rock. It’s an exercise in controlled wilderness, where every leaf and stone is placed with purpose, despite nature’s best efforts to grow where it pleases.
The whole setup screams of a homeowner who believed that with enough money and good design, even a hostile environment could be made to look like a perfectly manicured vision board. The house watches over its tamed jungle, silently judging lesser structures that merely sit *on* the ground.
