Someone in the truck cab below had a camera loaded and the discipline to keep it there, because dusk over an airfield was when the real traffic moved. A Huey comes in low against the fading blue, rotor blurred by its own speed, doing the same run it did every evening whether or not anyone was watching to note it down.
The historian's note
The aircraft is a Bell UH-1 Iroquois, universally known as the Huey, the standard utility and troop-transport helicopter of the United States military throughout the Vietnam War. The checkered rotating beacon on its wooden tower is a standard airfield obstruction marker, used to warn pilots of a fixed hazard near a runway or helipad during low-light operations, a common fixture at forward airbases and supply depots in Southeast Asia during the 1960s.
