The historian's note

この画像は、米国西部の多くの主要河川システムに特徴的な、深い峡谷環境を流れる堆積物を多く含む強力な河流を捉えています。急勾配で岩肌の斜面にある針葉樹の存在は、山岳地帯または高地砂漠峡谷生態系内の標高を示唆しています。

1970年代を通じて、環境意識の高まりと屋外レクリエーションの普及に促されて、自然景観の鑑賞と記録に向かう重大な文化的転換がありました。このような野生的で堂々とした自然の特徴の写真撮影は、野生地帯への遠足の個人的な記念品として、そしてアメリカの自然遺産への時代の関与の視覚的記録として機能しました。

川の不透明で茶色がかった色は、高い懸濁堆積物負荷を示しており、これは特に春の雪解けや豪雨の後、浸食速度が高いときに、西部の多くの河川で一般的です。この視覚的特性は、Colorado River盆地とその支流によく関連付けられています。
