The historian's note

20世紀半ばにアメリカ西部中にロードサイドおよび地域の自然史博物館が増殖し、しばしば化石、骨、または個人の剥製コレクションの周りに構築され、研究科学者ではなく高速道路旅行者を対象にしていた。Badlands化石層とBlack Hills観光回廊を持つSouth Dakotaは、1950年代と1960年代を通じてこれらの機関の数をサポートし、通常は素人の博物学者によってスタッフされ、学術機関ではなく入場料によって資金を供給された。
