誰かが新しい公園道路に車を停め、茂みの中へ数メートル歩き進み、当時セント・ジョンを訪れるあらゆる客が撮らずにいられない写真を撮った。Virgin Islands National Parkはまさにこの目的のためにこれらの尾根を最近舗装したばかりで、十分な人数が停車すれば景観展望台は自己正当化されるという理論に基づいていた。
The historian's note
Virgin Islands National Parkは1956年にセント・ジョン島に設立され、Laurance Rockefellerによる大規模な土地寄付に続くものだった。1960年代までに、National Park Serviceは島の尾根に沿って道路を切り開き、北岸上空のこのような展望台にドライバーがアクセスできるようにした。前景の三日月形の浜辺とターコイズ色の湾、そしてBritish Virgin Islands方向の沖合いに見える一連の小さな島々は、公園が保全するために設立された保護された北岸の入江に特徴的である。
この時期は、セント・ジョンが静かな農業・漁業経済から国立公園観光を中心に形成された目的地への初期的移行を示しており、景観ドライブと展望台がこの新しいインフラの一部として建設された。
