この砂利と樹木の広がりには礼拝堂が必要だと誰かが判断し、人口ではなく野心に見合った規模の建造物を建てた。礼拝堂は物置小屋よりわずかに大きいだけだが、ちゃんとした尖塔、十字架、二つの丸窓、そして道路から見える十分な明るさに塗られた外壁を備えている。1960年代の北部では、信仰はまだ通りからの見た目を信じていたからだ。
信者の姿はなく、車もなく、草に踏み込まれた小道もなく、ただその建物が砂利の敷地の真ん中に直立して立っている。樹木の奥には二番目の、より古い構造物が建っており、この礼拝堂の世話をしていた者が、誰かが戸を叩いた時に聞こえるほど近くに住んでいたことを示唆する、素朴な小屋だ。
もっとも心に響くのは、その身振りの自信だ。誰かが辺鄙な道沿いの空き森を見回り、唯一足りないものは教会だと結論づけ、その後、信者たちが実際にいるはずの規模と全く同じ大きさの教会を建てたのだ。
