The historian's note

この光景は、20世紀中盤の典型的なカジュアル服装の男性によって行われた一般的な冬の家事である除雪を描いている。レンガ造りの住宅と質素な木製ポーチは郊外の環境を示唆しており、第二次世界大戦後の経済好況期における一般的な住宅開発の形態である。

新しい開発地区における一戸建て住宅の広範な利用可能性は、多くの市民が財産管理の責任を引き受けることを意味していた。雪かきは、積雪地域の住宅所有者にとって定期的かつ身体的に負担の大きい作業であり、家庭用除雪機械の広範な採用に先行するものであった。

この活動は、その時代の自給自足と住宅所有に関連した家庭的責任に関する文化的強調を反映している。1950年代のアメリカ人の多くの冬の生活における日々の実践についての一瞥を提供する。
