The historian's note

この写真は、1970年代に撮影されたニューメキシコ州Sandoval CountyにあるKasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monumentの現在の地域内の、独特なフードゥーおよびテント岩構造を描写しています。これらの地質的特徴は主に、600万年から700万年前に起きた火山噴火からの軽石と灰の堆積物で構成されています。

円錐形の形状は、しばしば硬い侵食耐性を持つ岩で冠をかぶっており、風と水による軟らかい下層岩への差別的な浸食の結果です。このプロセスはスロットキャニオンと彫刻されたピナクルを作成し、乾燥地形の発展の重要な例となっています。

2001年にNational Monumentとして設立されたこのサイトはBureau of Land Managementによって管理されており、地質学的意義、考古学的資源、および隣接するPueblo de Cochitの文化的関係において重要です。
