The historian's note
Alaska 州の州都 Juneau は、ここでは1950年代に Gastineau Channel に沿った位置に描かれている。山と水に囲まれた市街地の地理は、南東 Alaska での港湾および輸送・商業の中核地点としての発展を決定づけていた。
Gastineau Channel にまたがる著名なトラス橋は、1935年に完成した元々の Juneau-Douglas Bridge であり、Juneau を Douglas Island に接続していた。この構造は1980年に新しい橋で置き換えられるまで、コミュニティにとって重要な連結点だった。
20世紀中盤、Juneau の経済は鉱業、漁業、および政府機関に大きく依存していた。その港は物資の輸出入を促進し、住民と産業にとって外部世界との重要なつながりとなっていた。
