誰かが小型飛行機でPresidioの上に傾き、カメラを持っていた。Golden Gate Bridgeが地上で既に利用可能な数千もの視点からではなく、直接上からの方がよく写ると仮定してのことだった。橋自身は岬から岬へと従順に走り、その影は水の上に定規のように横たわっている。30年後に誰かが技師たちの仕事を確認するのに使った定規のように。
下では、Baker Beachが海岸に沿って曲がっており、ビーチがするべきことをしている。大陸でもっとも写真に撮られた構造体の一つが数百ヤード右側にあるという事実に無関心のままで。Presidioのパレードグラウンドと散在する軍事住宅は、1960年代までも基地であることに重要な役目があると信じていた基地の、きちんとした目的的な外観で近い海岸を占めている。
海峡を挟んで、Marin Headlandsは、誰もが車で周辺を走行することはないため、最初から橋を必要とする乾燥した、折り畳まれた丘の種類で隆起している。全体的な配置は今では必然的に写真に写り、数十年間立っている場合のように、しかし誰かは昔、懐疑的な納税者の多くを、この特定のギャップを橋渡しすることが良い考えであり、霧の中で橋を失う非常に高い方法ではないことを納得させなければならなかった。
The historian's note
Golden Gate Bridge は1937年に完成し、San Francisco BayとPacific Oceanを結ぶ海峡に架かり、San FranciscoとMarin Countyを結んでいます。建設当時、世界で最も長い吊り橋スパンの記録を保有していたもので、米国で最も認識されている土木構造体の一つです。
前景の土地は、San FranciscoのPresidioで、1776年のスペイン植民地統治下で設立された元米陸軍駐屯地であり、1994年の廃止まで軍により保有されていました。1960年代は活発な陸軍施設でした。海岸線に沿って見えるBaker Beachは、Presidioの敷地内の公開娯楽区域として長く機能してきました。
民間および商用航空機からの橋と湾の空中写真は、20世紀中盤の一般的な慣行で、観光とMarin及びSan Francisco海岸線に沿った地域の急速な戦後成長を記録するために使用されていました。
