1930年代までに、カラーフィルムはアメリカの野生の風景を果たされた約束のように見せていた。前景の湖は平らで静寂に満ちており、初期のKodachrome フィルムが捉えるために発明されたのと同じ種類の鏡となっており、その背後には樹林に覆われた岸線が立ち上がり、遠方の霞の中へと後退する山々へと上昇している。上方の雲景は画面の半分を占めており、積雲の塔が天気をまだ観察していた時代の自信とともに積み重なっている。これはGlacier National Park の地理であり、市民的な推進派たちが20年間にわたってアメリカがパスポートを必要とせずに崇高な風景を保有していることの証拠として宣伝してきた風景である。カラーカメラを持ち、ショットを構成する時間を持つ誰かがここに立ってそれを記録しており、1930年代ではそれはカメラを持ち、フィルムストックを持ち、光が正しくなるまで待つ忍耐を持つことを意味していた。このシーンは、公園の建築家たちが常に主張してきたことを明らかにする。山々、水、空は解説なしにその役割を果たしている。

The historian's note

Glacier National Park は1910年にNational Park Service のシステムの王冠の宝石として設立され、その後の数十年間でレジャー観光と風景記録の目的地となった。公園の氷河で削られた湖、特に道路と歩行歩道でアクセス可能な湖は、1930年代と1940年代の新興カラー写真運動の頻繁な主題であり、Kodachrome および他のカラープロセスが白黒写真では達成できなかった鮮やかな風景記録を可能にした。このビューは公園の内部地理を表現している。おそらく氷河後退によって形成された一つの峰の湖であり、公園がアメリカの中産階級にとってアクセス可能な野生経験として視覚メディアを通じて積極的に宣伝されていた時期に捉えられたものである。
