Looking down on a city like this, one might conclude that humanity's primary objective is to cover as much land as possible with identical, slightly off-kilter boxes. Every structure represents a carefully considered decision by someone who believed their corner of the world was unique, only to contribute to a sprawling, blue-tinted sameness when viewed from sufficient altitude.
The winding roads and pockets of green space appear less like thoughtful urban planning and more like geological accidents the buildings hadn't quite gotten around to colonising yet. It's a testament to stubborn persistence, or perhaps a lack of alternative options, that so many people decided to build their lives on this particular slope, expanding inexorably into the distant haze.
From this elevated vantage point in the 1970s, the entire metropolis functions as a single, complex organism, humming along with its own internal logic. Nobody down there suspects they are part of a giant, somewhat blurry ant farm, but here we are, observing their confident endeavours.

In the 1970s, Bogotá experienced significant population growth and urbanisation, transforming its landscape from a more concentrated urban core to a vast metropolitan area. The city's geography, situated at an elevation of approximately 8,500 feet (2,600 metres) within the Andes mountain range, dictated its unique development patterns.
The viewpoint is consistent with an outlook from the Cerros Orientales (Eastern Hills), such as Monserrate or Guadalupe, which offer commanding views of the city. These hills have historically served as important spiritual and recreational sites, providing a perspective that highlights Bogotá's scale and its integration with the Andean environment.
