Someone bought an underwater camera housing in the 1960s and took it into the water with the confidence of a man who assumed the ocean would cooperate. The result is a big silver tarpon caught mid-glide, its armor-plate scales lit up like a run of dimes, everything else dissolved into the flat cobalt murk that early scuba photography always produced whether you wanted art or not.
The fish clearly has somewhere to be and no interest in the man with the housing. Getting this close to a tarpon of that size without a boat, a mate, or a strobe was the whole sport back then, since the equipment could barely manage focus, let alone flattery. What survives is not a portrait so much as proof of attendance, the diver's real trophy being that the shutter fired at all.
Nobody worried yet about reef fish populations or catch limits; a diver in the 1960s just wanted a story to tell at the dock, and a blurry giant fish was worth more than a sharp small one.
