The historian's note
This photograph captures the iconic "it's a small world" attraction at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, during the 1970s. The attraction, originally created by Walt Disney Imagineering for the 1964 New York World's Fair UNICEF Pavilion, was moved to Disneyland in 1966.
The ride is known for its distinctive facade adorned with clocks, numbers, and stylized architectural elements, and its boat journey through scenes depicting children from various cultures around the world, singing its famous theme song. The ride embodies a post-war message of global unity and childlike innocence.
Visible in the background is a train from the Disneyland Railroad, which encircles the park. Both attractions represent integral parts of the Disneyland experience, offering themed transport and immersive entertainment that defined the early era of the modern theme park.
