On the image

In the 1970s, someone decided that two small daisies pushing through the lawn merited the consumption of a frame of film. This was a time when every photograph required a deliberate act of choosing, unlike the endless digital captures of today.

The photographer, presumably, believed these particular blossoms possessed a unique visual appeal, or perhaps they were merely testing the camera's macro capabilities. Regardless, a moment of fleeting natural beauty was elevated to archival status.

Decades later, the chemical emulsion remains, silently confirming that at least two small white and yellow flowers once existed in this exact configuration, a quiet testament to the aesthetic values of an earlier era.

The historian's note

This photograph, taken in the 1970s, depicts two common daisies (likely Bellis perennis) growing amidst grass. Such close-up nature studies were a frequent subject for amateur photographers during this period, often serving as exercises in composition and exposure.

The image reflects the accessible nature of photography in the 1970s, where personal cameras became more widespread, leading to the documentation of everyday scenes and personal observations. The subject matter is typical of a casual, un-staged snapshot.
