4人が倒れた岩の塊の上を進んでいく、ちょうど光が消えていく瞬間のことであり、これは1960年代のハイキング隊がいつも「とにかく続けよう」と決める瞬間そのものである。誰かが胸に斜めがけした鞄を抱えてかがんでいる、飛び乗るべきか先に何かを渡すべきか迷っている人物の万能なポーズである。岩の上に残された赤い物は、誰かがジャケットかバックパックを置いて単に忘れたことを示唆している。その岩は後で確かにそこにあったのだ。
ここでハイキング用具に見えるようなものを誰も身につけていない。白いプルオーバーと普通のスラックスは、屋外用機器産業が人々を説得する前の時代に、適切な屋外装備と考えられていた。その想定がうまくいったようで、みんなまだ立っている。この光景は、地図よりも道を信頼する集団の、ぎこちなく焦らない振り付けを持っている。
岩石地全体に覆っている深い青い色は芸術的意図ではなく、単に太陽が稜線の下に消えた後、色あせた消費者向けカラーフィルムに夕暮れが何をもたらしたかというだけである。写真家は、悪く記録された記憶は全く記録されない記憶よりもましだという合理的ではあるが楽観的な理論に基づいて、とにかく撮影を続けた。
