誰かが3世代をあの良い壁板に並べた。ピンク色の舌と溝の形をしたもので、1960年代のある種の家庭が完成した地下室の洗練さの頂点と考えていたものだ。レース地のブラウスと猫目眼鏡をかけた年配の女性は、これまで何百回も写真に写ってきた人物の落ち着いた姿勢を持ち、カメラからは後に若干の失望以上のことを期待していない。彼女たちの間の若い男性は、動かないでいるよう言われた人物のかたい、ほぼ笑っているような表情をしている。この時代、それは光の具合によって3秒から1分近くまでを意味し得た。
