看板にはSt. Elmoと書かれており、1960年代までに、芝生の看板に自らの名前を筆記体で書くという手間をかけるホテルは、すでに自らの時代遅れさをアメニティとして宣伝していた。その背後にあるピンク色のマンサード屋根の建物は、アメリカの大型避暑地の全盛期に属するものであり、その時代は、家族全員がポーチのあるどこかで8月全体を過ごし、白い帽子をかぶったベルボーイが、客が十分にひとりで運べたであろう荷物を運ぶために待機していた時代であった。

あるグループの訪問者たちが歩道に沿ってのんびりと歩いており、その様子は夕食の鐘が鳴るまでどこにいるべき場所もない人々のものであった。赤いトップを着た者、日傘をさした者、誰も茂みが要求するより速く歩く者はいない。これがリゾートの約束であった。整備された芝生、深いポーチ、屋根線上の十分な建築装飾が、客に自らの休暇が歴史的な重みを持つと感じさせるのに十分であった。

緑色の公園のベンチは近くの芝生の上に空いた状態で置かれており、ホテルに向かって角度がつけられていた。まるそこにあえて配置されたかのように、誰かがホテルの全長を歩く面倒なしに建物を座って眺めることができるように。だが誰も使用していない。これもまた、リゾートの静かな計算の一部であった。休むための十分な場所があり、そうしているのを見られるためにぶらつき続けることを好む客たちがいた。
