The historian's note
この風景は、アメリカ西部内陸部に典型的な高原砂漠景観を示しており、森林に覆われた尾根間の起伏のある地形を大型セージブラッシュ（Artemisia tridentata）が覆っている。この植生パターンはグレートベイスンおよびロッキー山脈の山麓地域に共通し、ネバダ州、ユタ州、ワイオミング州、コロラド州の各部分に見られる。
こうしたロードサイド写真は1960年代に州間高速道路と一般道路旅行の拡大に伴い普及し、手頃な価格のカラースライドフィルムにより、横断旅行の日常的な記録撮影が通常のことになった。このような画像は車窓を通じて、または車窓の横から撮影されたもので、当時の家族旅行アーカイブに一般的に見られ、通常は具体的な位置情報がないが、植生と地形はインターマウンテン・ウエストの一般的な設定を支持している。
