金色の装飾が施された大聖堂の内部で、太陽光がずっと昔に逝去した王族の墳墓に劇的に降り注いでいる。これらの装飾的で鍛造された鉄製の囲いは、明らかに重要な人物が死後も去ることのないように設計されていた。ある遺産は決して乱されてはならないという考え方への、費用のかかる建築的約束である。

The historian's note
この内部写真は、1970年代のロシア・St. Petersburg（当時Leningrad）のPeter and Paul Cathedralを描いている。この大聖堂は、Peter the Greatから始まるロシアのRomanov皇帝および皇后の主要な埋葬地として機能していた。
前景に見える装飾的な鉄製囲いは、これらの皇族人物の個別の墳墓を示している。いくつかの墳墓の銘板はそれらを識別し、特に1725年から1727年まで統治したEmpress Catherine Iの墳墓、および1725年に逝去したPeter the Greatの墳墓が注目される。
