On the image

The historian's note

1811年に完成したNew York City Hallは、Joseph-François ManginとJohn McComb Jr.によって設計されたフェデラル様式の建築にフランスルネサンスの影響を受けた顕著な例である。Lower ManhattanのCity Hall Parkに立っている。

この建物はNew York Cityの市長とNew York City Councilの座席として機能している。そのクーポラは「Civic Pride」として知られる像で頭頂装飾されている。19世紀と20世紀を通じて、多くの重要な市民イベントと政治集会の場となってきた。

この画像は、20世紀半ばの建物を捉えている。戦後の都市開発が重要だった時期であり、New York Cityの地方自治が進化していた時期である。その永遠の建築的存在は、都市内での民主的機関の継続性を象徴し続けていた。
