カメラは、常緑樹林に完全に埋もれた山腹に向けられており、岩そのものが地質学の偶然に思える。頂上に見える裸の稜線と左側斜面の淡色の石灰岩の崖は、登山のために作られた山を示唆しているが、ロッジポールマツとダグラスファーの密集した樹冠が各斜面を覆っており、提案全体は不必要に困難に見える。これは、野生景観の保護という考えがアメリカで可視化になり始めた時期に、誰かが撮影した風景である。その時期は荒野のビジネスが写真に価する価値を持つようになり始め、カラーフィルムがそのような風景を単に現実的ではなく公式的に見せた。フィルムの彩度とクールなパレットは、シーンに資源インベントリのような感覚を与えており、誰かが山々が何を含んでいるかを記録してから、それらで何をするかを決定する前のように見える。

The historian's note
