The historian's note

1970年代のこの画像には、北米の一般的な水鳥であるマガモ(Anas platyrhynchos)とカナダガン(Branta canadensis)が写っている。両種は高度に適応可能であり、都市部および郊外の池、湖、河川に頻繁に生息し、大陸全体で見慣れた光景となっている。

マガモはオスの虹色に輝く緑色の頭部で広く認識され、一方カナダガンは黒い頭部と首に白い「あごひも」状の模様で区別される。これらの鳥は共有生息地でしばしば一緒に見られ、水生植物、穀物、小型無脊椎動物を採食する。

公共の場でのこれらの種の広範な普及により、カジュアル写真撮影の人気被写体となり、20世紀半ばにおける自然環境と地域野生動物の記録に対するより広い関心を反映している。
