The historian's note
Blenheim Palace、Woodstock、Oxfordshire、イギリスに位置し、Dukes of Marlboroughの主要邸宅である。イギリスにおいて宮殿の称号を得た唯一の非王族、非聖職者の郷村邸宅である。宮殿は1705年から1722年の間に建設され、John Vanbrughによってイングランド・バロック様式で設計された。
1704年のBlenheim戦争におけるフランス軍およびバイエルン軍に対する軍事的勝利の栄誉として、Queen AnnによりJohn Churchill、1st Duke of Marlboroughに命じられた。Sir Winston Churchillの出生地および祖先の邸宅として特筆される。
現在、Blenheim PalaceはUNESCOの世界遺産に指定され、バロック建築と造園庭園の重要な事例として存続し、その歴史的および建築的重要性のために世界中から訪問者を引き寄せている。
