Il generale a cavallo sul suo piedistallo bianco ha visto traffico peggiore di questo, sebbene non di molto. Sotto di lui una Citroën 2CV si insinua nella rotatoria con quella particolare sufficienza di un'auto disegnata per agricoltori francesi, ora messa in servizio come trasporto urbano in una capitale sudamericana che aveva adottato metà dei rottami automobilistici europei e li aveva chiamati flotta.

Una Fiat 600 rossa e un sgangherato microbús blu attendono il loro turno, ciascuno rappresentando una teoria diversa su quante persone dovrebbero stare in quanto spazio, tutti apparentemente corretti contemporaneamente. I pedoni attraversano dietro il monumento con la fiducia senza fretta di persone alle quali non è stato ancora detto che questo incrocio un giorno sarà una fotografia studiata per le sue automobili piuttosto che per il suo generale.

Nessuno nel fotogramma sembra pensare che niente di tutto questo sia rimarchevole, che è il segno più affidabile che lo sarà decenni dopo.
