Si trova in cima alla pista nella posa che ogni sciatore dilettante dell'epoca aveva praticato davanti a uno specchio: bastoncini piantati, mento alzato, in attesa che qualcuno con una fotocamera notasse quanto bene il maglione si abbinasse alla neve. Dietro di lui la teleferica si estende tra gli alberi, un cavo poco glamoroso che faceva il vero lavoro di far salire la gente su per la montagna prima che gli impianti a seggiola diventassero attrezzatura standard in ogni stazione di medie dimensioni.

L'azzurro profondo e saturo sopra la testa è quello che la luce del tardo pomeriggio fa a una diapositiva Kodachrome, sebbene nessuno che posasse quel giorno pensasse alla chimica, solo a fare una bella foto prima che il sole scomparisse dietro la cresta. Giù per la pista, minuscole figure si trascinano o aspettano il loro turno, prova che una stazione sciistica negli anni '60 funzionava principalmente con pazienza e ustioni da corda piuttosto che con cavalli vapore.

Nulla in questa pista richiedeva un biglietto della seggiovia a una stazione famosa; una montagna locale con una teleferica e un boschetto di pini serviva per la maggior parte degli sciatori domenicali del periodo. L'uomo in primo piano ha l'immobilità di chi sa che la foto sta per essere scattata e ha deciso di apparire competente piuttosto che muoversi.
