Someone decided a piece of the planet had too much rock and not enough metal. The solution involved large trucks and a systematic dismantling of the landscape, layer by painstaking layer, under the assumption that mountains were merely inconvenient packaging for valuable minerals.

The terraces show the methodical approach, each cut a testament to engineers who believed they could improve upon nature. Machines the size of small buildings moved earth around, creating new, temporary topographies for a quick profit.

This kind of operation represented a certain optimism about infinite resources and finite consequences. The air quality might have been a minor concern, but the quarterly earnings report held far greater strategic importance.
