In the 1970s, group travel abroad often involved bringing along friends, or at least people who seemed friendly enough for a picture. This particular cohort assembled itself efficiently on a patterned tile, a task that required minimal negotiation and assumed everyone knew where the camera was.
Their brightly coloured synthetic fabrics were the height of contemporary style, offering both comfort for touring and a subtle resistance to wrinkles. No one foresaw a future where natural fibres would reclaim their dominance, or that these very outfits would become historical markers.
The ancient grounds of the Alhambra provided an appropriately exotic backdrop, giving the entire endeavour a sense of cultural gravitas. They would go home with a tangible record of their adventurous spirit, ready to show everyone that they had indeed been to Spain and had seen things.
