The allure of a rugged coastline in the 1970s was undeniable, particularly when it involved a dramatic display of nature's indifference. Finding a vantage point that offered a clear view of waves impacting solid rock was considered a photographic achievement, requiring steady hands and often a healthy disregard for personal safety.
This particular section of the Pacific Coast provided ample opportunity for such a spectacle, with the ocean diligently performing its erosion duties against the dark, unyielding cliffs. Even the sparse vegetation on the clifftop seemed to cling on out of pure stubbornness, a testament to life's refusal to acknowledge geological processes.
People documented these moments with a certain earnestness back then, capturing the raw power without feeling the need for irony or an accompanying essay on human insignificance. It was just a big wave doing its job, and someone had a camera ready to prove it.
