Someone stopped the car, got out, and decided this particular meadow of wild iris deserved a slide. That was a real commitment in the 1950s, when color film was expensive enough that a person only pointed the camera at something they were fairly sure would still matter later, which meant most amateur photographers became accidental botanists for the length of a vacation.

The iris here is almost certainly Iris missouriensis, the Rocky Mountain wild iris, a plant that colonizes wet subalpine meadows in sheets and blooms for roughly two weeks a year before going back to looking like ordinary grass. Whoever framed this shot got the timing right, which was less skill than luck, since nobody in 1950s casual tourism carried a bloom calendar.

The dark conifer treeline and open sightline beyond suggest a mountain pass or high basin, the kind of spot a family trip through the Rockies would treat as a scenic pullout worth ten minutes and one photograph. Nobody in the frame, no trail marker, no sign of a name for the place. Just a meadow that someone was sure, correctly, was worth remembering.
