A large cylindrical propane tank sits half-buried in snow, its white surface stained with rust streaks and age marks that tell the story of at least one full season of harsh weather. Behind it, a frozen pond or creek cuts a dark line through the white, bordered by bare trees and what appear to be palmettos or yuccas growing improbably in snow—the kind of collision between climates that happens in the marginal cold snaps of the American South or Gulf Coast when winter briefly visits. The tank itself is a monument to the mid-century rural infrastructure: propane delivery was replacing older heating methods, and these tanks became the reliable if ungainly centerpiece of every property that couldn't reach a gas line. Someone stationed this camera here to document the installation or the winter conditions, recording without comment the exact stains and wear patterns that would matter to a company inspector. The dark metal valve and connecting line at the bottom anchor the frame, practical and undramatic, the way important things often look.
