The historian's note

この写真は、1970年代に撮影された夜間のアテネのアクロポリスのパルテノンと他の建造物をライトアップした様子を捉えている。紀元前438年に完成したパルテノンは、アテナイアクロポリス上の旧神殿であり、Athensの人々が守護神と考えていた女神Athenaに献納されていた。

1970年代までに、パルテノンを含むアクロポリス複合体は、既に長い間、主要な国際観光地となっていた。夜間照明は、古代記念碑の劇的な外観を強調し、夜間訪問を可能にし、街全体のアイコン的な景観を提供するために導入された。この慣行は世界中の多くの重要な歴史遺跡の標準的な特徴となり、戦後の観光産業の拡大に対応した。

アクロポリスは古代ギリシャの最も認識可能な記念碑の一つであり、ユネスコ世界遺産に登録されており、継続的に保全と修復作業が行われている。
