ホワイトハウスはケネディ政権下（1961–1963年）で実質的な改修と近代化を受け、East及びWest Wingは更新された設備と改善された公共スペースを受け取った。ここで見えるアーキテクチャの語彙—清潔なモダニスト様式のライン、体系的な通気、設計された進入路のカーブ—はこの時期の行政庁舎に適用された現代的設計哲学を反映している。公式な国家訪問と公式行事は、ホワイトハウスの広報活動の一部として定期的に撮影されていた。ここに示されている集会のスタイルと衣装コードは、1960年代初期のそのような機会における標準的なプロトコルであった。
