The historian's note

Warren, Michiganのゼネラルモーターズ・テクニカルセンターは、1956年にアメリカ企業現代主義の最高傑作として開業した。フィンランド系アメリカ人建築家Eero Saarinenによって設計された、125エーカーの複合施設であり、戦後のアメリカ産業支配とエンジニアリング、デザイン、企業ビジョンの融合を象徴していた。この施設は、数十年にわたってアメリカ自動車デザインを定義する研究開発業務を行っていた。ここに示されている展望デッキは、1950年代と1960年代の企業ツアーの標準的な機能であり、その時代の産業施設は進歩の記念碑として自らを提示し、アメリカ技術および製造上の優位性の証拠として一般大衆に提供されていた。カラーフィルムと構成は、これが施設の初期の操業年間中に撮影されたことを示している。
