どこかから行進楽団がやってくる。それまでの間、木製の靴が娯楽を担当しなければならない。エプロン姿のオランダ衣装を着た大人たちが、クロンペン（木製靴）を履きながら歩道のそばでからたたと音を立てている。これらの靴は年に一度の目的のために彫られたもので、残りの365日間はミシガン州の他の誰もと同じように普通の靴を履いている。
The historian's note
このシーンは20世紀初頭にミシガン州西部の地域社会で確立されたアメリカ系オランダ系遺産フェスティバル、特に1929年に設立され同地域のオランダ系入植を記念するHolland, MichiganのTulip Time Festivalを記録している。1960年代までに、このようなフェスティバルは確立された市民的伝統となり、数千人の観客を引き付けた。オランダの伝統的な衣装、木製の靴（クロンペン）、エプロン、オランダの歴史的な地域衣装に基づくレース帽をかぶった住民が参加するパレードが開かれた。
