In the 1970s, people sometimes pointed cameras at arrangements of trees and light, believing such a scene captured a profound moment of nature, or at least provided a pleasant visual memory for a photo album. This particular arrangement involves some prominent, gnarled tree trunks in the foreground.
They frame a view of distant, hazy hills covered in dense foliage, all bathed in what appears to be late afternoon or early morning sunlight. The bright spots on the grass suggest the photographer was quite pleased with the dappled lighting.
The entire composition suggests a deliberate effort to capture what someone considered a beautiful vista. It looks exactly like any other wooded hillside on a sunny day, reminding us that nature, unlike fashion or politics, rarely feels the need to update its aesthetic.
