A yellow diamond sign, designed to warn motorists of an impending stop, stands diligently in a snowdrift where all forward motion has evidently ceased. Its message presupposes a functioning transportation network, a concept temporarily rendered theoretical by several feet of frozen precipitation. The planning that went into its placement was thorough, but nature has provided a more immediate instruction.

Nearby, a car has been entirely absorbed by the snowdrifts, its former purpose as a conveyance thoroughly obsolete. It now serves as a large, inconvenient hump in the landscape, a testament to the temporary triumph of weather over personal mobility, and perhaps, over hope itself.

The apartment buildings in the background suggest lives continuing, perhaps with a renewed appreciation for indoor plumbing and hot coffee. Their sturdy construction is a human constant, but the daily commute, along with any other external plans, has been rescheduled indefinitely.
