On the image

Someone stood on this lawn in the 1960s, pointed a camera at the family cabin across the grass, and got mostly trees. This was a common outcome of amateur holiday photography before anyone understood depth of field: the eye sees past the pine trunks to the cottage and the lake beyond, but the lens does not know what to ignore.
