Driving in the 1970s required a specific type of confidence, guided by white arrows painted directly onto the asphalt and yellow 'YIELD' signs that offered a suggestion more than an imperative. The system expected you to know where you were going, or at least pretend you did.

The historian's note
This image depicts the Florida State Capitol Complex in Tallahassee, Florida, during the 1970s. The prominent domed structure is the historic Florida State Capitol building, which served as the seat of Florida's government from 1845 until the completion of the new Capitol building in 1977. The large white building to its left is the Florida Executive Mansion, the official residence of the Governor of Florida.
The view is likely taken from Apalachee Parkway, looking northwest toward the Capitol complex.
