The expanding city in the valley below demonstrates the era's firm belief that more buildings meant more progress, an equation rarely questioned in the 1970s.
From this vantage point, one could admire how concrete and steel were efficiently replacing natural landscapes. Each new high-rise represented a small victory over nature and common sense, creating a dense urban tapestry that was, presumably, quite livable for many.
The highway snaking into the urban sprawl was another testament to human ingenuity, facilitating the rapid movement of people and their increasing number of possessions. It all contributed to the grand, evolving spectacle that defined a major city of the developing world, captured here for posterity before things got even more complicated.

This image depicts the sprawling cityscape of Bogotá, Colombia, as seen from the Monserrate peak, during the 1970s. Monserrate, a prominent mountain overlooking the city, is known for its historic church and offers extensive panoramic views of the capital and the surrounding Sabana de Bogotá.
The 1970s marked a period of rapid urbanisation and modernisation in Bogotá. Significant population growth led to widespread construction of high-rise buildings and expansion of residential and commercial areas, as reflected in the dense urban fabric visible.
This perspective illustrates the scale of Bogotá's development into a major Latin American metropolis, with its built environment extending across the valley floor and encroaching upon the natural Andean landscape. Such elevated views were frequently utilised to document the city's transformation.
